Instrument Rating If you are interested in acquiring your instrument rating, then these are the products for you. At a minimum you'll need Rod Machado's Instrument Pilot's Handbook. This book will prepare you for the FAA Instrument Pilot Knowledge Exam as well as the oral portion of your flight exam. It's a one-stop book that contains everything you need to become a well rounded instrument pilot. Of course, if you'd like to take your training beyond the basics, then consider purchasing Rod Machado's Instrument Pilot's Survival Manual. This is an advanced instrument text that's not intended for knowledge exam prep. Instead, it's intended to provide you with the practical knowledge you'll need to handle the challenges of instrument flight. The chapter on interpreting your NEXRAD presentation is worth its weight in slow running Hobbs meters, too!
